And hopefully I won't have to do that again for a long time! Yes, it's been a while since I've been around these parts. But I'm hoping to get back up to speed. The new place has a washer/dryer hookup, which, in Whirlpool's terms, makes life eaiser! Along the way, I did manage to find a couple other goodies I'll share. All in good time. Here's hoping I can make it to the next Greenville Forum Days get together!

Putting things away in a new house makes everything seem brand new in it's different setting. It's also nice to reaquaint yourself with parts of your life that have been packed away. It's even better than Christmas because you get lots more boxes.

It's always nice to look at things more optimistically. The move was tough for me, but overall I am now better off than I was. It has, in fact, enabled me to pursue one of my older hobbies: collecting major appliances.

Speaking of major appliances, a BIG KitchenAid mixer just fell on my lap. Not the kind you bread with, however. It's more the detergent and clothing variety:

And here's a shot of that big, blue dough hook!

Since it was given to me freely, it does have a few of its problems. First, the cold water inlet to the mixer valve was frozen. I salvaged that part from another machine, so that problem was solved. It needs a new timer because the one it currently has is stripped and the knob turns freely, whether pushed in or out. For now, I just turn the dial its self after I push the knob in; I'm good to go until I find that part. Then there's the transmission which slams into spin rather than neutral drain like it should. I am sure that will be a major transmission project. Last, I'll need a new set of bumpers for the lid, since the ones it had appear to have been broken off a long time ago. You can well bet it had a hard life doing loads for a family of four on a daily basis for 15 years, yet it still survives! If anybody's interested, I'll be sure to post some images of any rebuild I plan later.

If anybody knows of some parts to a KAWE670B laying around in a warehouse some place in Clyde Ohio and wants to get rid of them, then I'm interested!

Glad you're all "done" with your move.

Hope all is well, and we get to see each other again in Greenville this year.....

The KitchenAid washer is a much more civilized enhancement of Whirlpool's direct drive machine. It's quieter, has larger vanes on the agitator and moves the clothes better. Best of all you don't have to navigate Sears repair regime to get what you need. My sister's washer began doing the slam thing with a loud band at the beginning of the spin cycle. Turned out the bolts holding the motor in place were loose and the movement allowed the motor to slam or slap the coupler. I hope your repair can be as easy. As we all know, new washers are legislated to use less water which means longer wash time, more abraiding of fibers and poorer rinsing. Many people are complaining of skin allergies from soap left in their clothes. Hang on to the best, it's easy to service, buller proof and I am slightly OCD about having as many appliances as possible be the same brand.

The motor bolts on this one are fine. The trouble is with the neutral drain mechanism, which I believe is shot. Rather than drain on neutral, it often goes directly into spin while draining. It then pauses as intended like it's engaging, and restarts the spin cycle with the normal spray rinses and so forth. This problem escapes people who are not familiar with how these machines work. But a technician might give it a terminal diagnosis. For me, this means a transmission rebuild, rather than the unwelcome purchase of one of the newer machines that so many people, including myself, tend to dislike. Your advice is worth its weight in gold, mixfinder.

KitchenAidPhoebe: If I go to Greenville this year, then I expect you and KitchenAidJulie to be there too. You better!
